Why should I want to do research?
Scientific research can be exciting! It is like solving a very complex puzzle. Investigating the natural world and finding out new things about it can be both personally fulfilling and helpful to the society at large.

Why should I want to become a professor?
A career as a university professor can be very fulfilling in that you engage in research and pass along your knowledge to the next generation. You interact with like-minded colleagues and college students who keep you on your toes!

Will the program help me get into graduate school?
Having research experience outside of lab classes definitely makes you more competitive for graduate school.

How long does the program last?
Both Track 1 (new to research) and Track 2 (enhancing existing research) programs last one year and start in July.

If I was a Track 1 BB2P scholar can I apply for Track 2?
Yes.

Do I receive a proof of completion after I finish the program?
Yes. You will receive a letter from the program leaders.

As a UCR undergraduate do I qualify for BB2P?
No. But you can apply directly to the MSRIP program and start on a research path that way.

How much is the stipend? When would I receive it?
The summer stipend to cover living expenses is $5000 for both Track 1 and Track 2 BB2P scholars. It is distributed in two parts - the first half at the end of July and the second half after you present at the MSRIP symposium in late August.
There is also a $500 research stipend to buy lab supplies for your project.

Are my living expenses covered while doing the MSRIP program as a Track 1 student?
Your stay in university housing for 8 weeks while you participate in summer research at UCR (MSRIP) is covered by the program.

Will the stipend interfere with my financial aid at CSU?
The stipend is for the summer and should not impact financial aid during the school year. Please consult your adviser at your Cal State campus for verification.

Are travel expenses included?
Yes, travel expenses are covered to come to UCR for summer research and symposium in MSRIP (Track 1), the MSRIP symposium (Track 2) and the one-day BB2P/CUSP orientation in Spring (Track 2).

Do I need to report my stipend when filing my taxes?
You will receive a 1099 form from UCR to file with your taxes.
